ReCellular, AVEC Launch Venezuela's First-Ever Cell Phone Recycling Program

ReCellular Expands its Environmental and Charitable Commitment to Venezuela with RECICL@CEL Initiative

ReCellular, Inc, the world’s foremost collector, reseller and recycler of used wireless handsets and accessories, today announced the launch of Venezuela’s first-ever cell phone recycling program, RECICL@CEL. ReCellular has partnered with national charity AVEC (Asociación Venezolana de Educación Católica), and wireless operator Movilnet, official sponsors committed to supporting the program through collection points in their stores and special promotions.

ReCellular pioneered the first phone recycling programs in 1999 and has since grown into a world leader, with established programs in both North and South America. More than 15 million handsets have been collected and resold to date, and their charitable programs have generated more than $12 million for charities. As developing markets mature, ReCellular is committed to establishing recycling programs in every market where they sell phones.

“This initiative gives mobile subscribers the opportunity to protect the environment and support a noble cause which benefits thousands of children and adolescents that are aided by our housing network.” stated Antonio Maria Marquiegui Candina, President of AVEC.

AVEC, and the housing network it provides, has helped protect thousands of children and adolescents affected by young pregnancy, unemployment and/or family abandonment, alcohol and drug abuse, malnutrition, verbal and physical abuse, as well as many other issues. Their housing network has 90 centers throughout the country, where they are able to provide housing and educate those children and families affected. The RECICL@CEL program will provide additional funding to support these efforts.

“ReCellular is proud to partner with such a worthy charity for this program, the first of its kind in the country,” stated Charles Newman, President and CEO of ReCellular. “We encourage all cell phone users in Venezuela to drop off their used or unwanted cellular equipment in support of this program. It’s convenient and can do an enormous amount of good.”

Venezuela reported 13.6 million wireless subscribers. The RECICL@CEL program will offer more than 1,300 drop off locations throughout the country. All phones collected through the program will be processed for reuse or properly recycled.
